Report: Discipline for Saints coming soon

Steve Wyche just reported on NFL Network that the NFL could announce disciplinary action against the New Orleans Saints soon.

Could it come Wednesday? We’ll see. But Wyche said an announcement is expected no later than Friday. That makes sense because the NFL spring meeting officially starts Monday in Palm Beach, Fla. There are some committee meetings Sunday and most owners and team and league officials will be traveling Saturday or Sunday. It’s also likely the league wants to have some resolution to the issue before the meeting starts.

But, even if an announcement is made, the entire situation might not be resolved right away. Wyche reported that the first announcement could include news on a fine for the team, possible suspensions for coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis and the potential loss of draft picks. But it might take some more time to find out if players will be suspended. The NFL Players Association is continuing its investigation of the bounty program the NFL says the Saints ran for three seasons. The union has asked the league not to punish players before it finishes its investigation.

We’ll keep our ears open and be ready to analyze whatever discipline is coming to the Saints as soon as an announcement is made.
