Smith says he's no longer asset to the Panthers

If the Panthers had lost Sunday, I’d be much more concerned with receiver Steve Smith saying he’s no longer an asset to Carolina. Smith

As it is, this isn’t a very good situation. It never is when the best player on a team is frustrated. Smith was held to just one catch by the Buccaneers and his numbers haven’t been good all season as quarterback Jake Delhomme and the running game have been inconsistent.

Smith’s frustration is natural. But it’s also fixable. This team has seen Smith erupt before (and it’s usually been on a bigger scale) and helped him calm down and produce again repeatedly. But the Panthers have to give Smith some help.

He’s getting double-teamed constantly and offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson has to start finding ways to free Smith up and make him an asset to this offense.
