It’s the time of year when everyone is giving awards and naming all-star teams. Most of them are based largely on statistics from the regular season.
But there is one that’s a little different that’s worth a look. It’s the 2012 USA Football All-Fundamentals Team. As the name implies, the criteria for making this team was exhibiting “exemplary football techniques for youth players to emulate.’’
The Atlanta Falcons, whose fans don’t think their players got enough recognition this season, came out pretty well on this team. Quarterback Matt Ryan, tight end Tony Gonzalez and safety Thomas DeCoud all made the team.
The only other NFC South player to make the team was Tampa Bay guard Carl Nicks, which is impressive, since Nicks appeared in only seven games before being placed on injured reserve.
