Time for a quick run through some odds and ends from around the division:
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
There’s been a lot of talk about the New York Jets perhaps trading cornerback Darrelle Revis. The obstacle there is his existing contract runs for only one more season, so suitors might be concerned that they would only have Revis for a year. Joel Corry lays out a blueprint for a contract that could make Revis and a new team happy. The Bucs are in desperate need of an upgrade at cornerback and have plenty of cap room, so maybe general manager Mark Dominik will try something like this.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Bradley Handwerger has an excellent breakdown of the Saints’ salary-cap commitment at each position. Quarterback takes up more than 12 percent. There’s only one quarterback currently under contract. That’s Drew Brees.
It has been well documented that quarterback Cam Newton is back at Auburn University, working toward a degree in Sociology. But that’s not all Newton is up to these days. He played matchmaker on Wednesday, helping a man serving in the Air Force propose to his girlfriend over the radio. She accepted the proposal.
I joined Jay Adams and Daniel Cox on the team website’s podcast to talk about the future of Tony Gonzalez, potential draft picks for the Falcons, and touched on the other teams in the division.
