ESPN Stats & Information is listing 3-4 personnel and cornerback as the biggest draft needs for the New Orleans Saints, and demonstrating why with some numbers.
As the Saints switch from a 4-3 scheme to a 3-4, they might want to add some run-stuffers. Last season, the Saints allowed a league-worst 5.3 yards per carry on runs between the tackles.
The Saints also need to add pass-rush help with defensive ends or outside linebackers. Last season, the Saints recorded a sack once every 21.6 dropbacks, the fourth-worst rate in the NFL.
The Saints added free-agent cornerback Keenan Lewis in March. But they still might want to look for more help at cornerback. Last season, the Saints allowed a league-high 8.3 yards per attempt on throws outside the painted numbers. That number was up from 6.1 yards per attempt in 2011.
