NFC South afternoon update

Let’s take an afternoon run through some news and notes from around the division:

Wide receiver Mike Williams sent out a cryptic message on social media, seemingly saying he’s frustrated with negotiations for a contract extension. Keep in mind, that Williams has been known to show his emotions. Maybe he’s frustrated at the moment. But this is a negotiation and things can change with one phone call.

Take a look at the individual player rankings for New Orleans’ defense by Pro Football Focus. The Saints have only three defensive players, according to PFF, that are above average. They also have four players that fall into the “poor" category. Makes you wonder if this defense has a shot at being any better than last year.

Coach Ron Rivera said rookie guard Edmund Kugbila, who missed some of the offseason program with an injury, should be ready for the start of training camp. If he stays healthy, Kugbila has a chance to compete with Geoff Hangartner for a starting spot.

Jay Adams has an overview of the situation at linebacker. The question I’m getting from a lot of Atlanta fans is if Brian Banks will make the roster. I’ve heard nothing but positive reports out of Flowery Branch about Banks. And, looking at the rest of the depth at linebacker, I think Banks has a chance to stick.
