Around the NFC South

Let's take a spin through some news and notes from around the division:

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon reportedly suffered a dislocated finger during Monday’s joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s unclear how much time Weatherspoon will miss.

Coach Ron Rivera said first-round draft pick Star Lotulelei has been everything the team hoped for and more. That’s a good thing because it’s become apparent the defensive tackle will be an immediate starter.

Jeff Duncan writes that the Saints are flying under the radar this preseason. That’s a big difference from last year when the bounty scandal was dominating the news. The Saints also aren’t being mentioned as a Super Bowl favorite. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing because there’s not a lot of pressure on the Saints and they might be able to surprise some people.

The team remains confident that cornerback Darrelle Revis, who is coming off knee surgery, will be ready for the season opener. The Bucs have been very deliberate in gradually increasing the amount of work Revis is allowed to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucs let him test his knee out briefly in one of the later preseason games.
