Gerald McCoy calls himself out

TAMPA, Fla. -- Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy made perhaps the most athletic move of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' season Tuesday.

He called himself out. While answering a question about the pass rush in general, McCoy got specific about himself.

"Me personally though, I have to, with me being a leader, one of the leaders of the team and definitely leaders of the defense, I am taking it on myself to get something done," McCoy said. "We do have to rush as a unit and that is all well and good, but there comes a point and time when you are 0-5 or 0-6 and somebody has to do something. So I am just taking it upon myself to make something happen."

McCoy is a team captain, and his honesty and attitude are admirable. The Bucs have no room for excuses because they have plenty of talent that hasn't been maximized.

There's no need to call out others or put the blame on the coaching staff. If McCoy does what he says he will -- make big plays -- and others follow his lead, this season might not be totally lost for the Buccaneers.
