So far, and this is always subject to change, it’s a very quiet day in the NFC South.
But there are some minor things happening, so let’s throw them all together and take a quick trip through the division.
The Bucs reportedly are at least expressing interest in a few free-agent safeties. We’re not talking anybody major, but the Bucs have to do something because Sabby Piscitelli struggled in a starting role last year.
Another in the endless stream of mock drafts has the Bucs taking defensive tackle Gerald McCoy at No. 3. It’s entirely possible, but the draft is more than a month away and what the Bucs actually end up doing is going to depend heavily on what happens with the two teams ahead of them.
Steve Reed writes what many Carolina fans are thinking -- the Panthers could be interested in former Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson. As Reed points out, there’s history with offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson. Plus, Anderson has some starting experience and would seem like a viable alternative to Matt Moore. But the emphasis should be on the word “could.’’ There are no indications the Panthers have contacted Anderson or are ready to move. Even though Anderson seems like a logical target, it’s tough to figure out exactly what kind of logic the Panthers are following right now.
