Marrone leaves Saints early

The Saints announced Saturday that offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Doug Marrone won't stay with the team for the final two games.

Marrone, who has been hired as the head coach at Syracuse did not ask to leave the Saints early, Payton said. But Payton wanted to give Marrone the opportunity to get started on his new job.

Running backs coach Aaron Kromer, who has previously worked with offensive linemen, will coach the line for the final two games. Offensive assistant Joe Lombardi will work with the running backs for the rest of the season. It's possible those new assignments could continue into next year.

Although Marrone had the offensive coordinator title, Payton has always called the plays. It's unknown if Payton will hire an offensive coordinator for next season.
