Abraham sets new career high for sacks

ATLANTA -- The decision by Mike Smith to make defensive end John Abraham a part-time player is looking better each week.

Abraham just sacked Tampa Bay's Brian Griese. That gives Abraham a career best 13.5 sacks on the season. His previous best was 13, when he played for the New York Jets.

By playing mostly on passing downs, Abraham has avoided the injury problems that were common for much of his career and he's been able to stay fresh and put steady pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
