Saints lineman retires due to kidney issue

The career of Alex Fletcher has come to a premature end. Fletcher, offensive lineman, was trying to make it with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent from Stanford.

But recent medical exams determined Fletcher has only one kidney.

"He has one kidney and the one kidney he has needs some work,'' coach Sean Payton told the media Monday. "That becomes an immediate stop to playing football. I think he's going to be done playing football."

The Saints placed Fletcher on the reserve/retired list. They signed center Digger Bujnoch to fill his roster spot. Bujnoch previously has spent time with the Giants and Bengals and is the son of former NFL lineman Glenn Bujnoch.
