The Buccaneers and Falcons were shut out when the NFC Pro Bowl roster was announced tonight, but there still is a chance both teams could be represented in the game.
Alternates are probably more important this season than previously because players from Super Bowl teams will not play in the Pro Bowl -- they’ll be busy practicing for the championship game. Some teams don’t announce alternates and some wait until Wednesday because they want to first tell the players, who are off on Tuesdays.
But we do know for sure that Tampa Bay guard Davin Joseph is an alternate. He’s believed to be the No. 2 alternate behind New York’s Chris Snee. The Falcons haven’t said anything about their alternates, but it’s likely tight end Tony Gonzalez is somewhere on the list. Atlanta could have other alternates, such as receiver Roddy White and running back Michael Turner.
Carolina linebacker Jon Beason seemed to be a snub from the Pro Bowl roster, but it’s possible he could be an alternate. The Saints have an NFC South-high five Pro Bowlers and that number could grow. It’s possible wide receiver Marques Colston and guard Carl Nicks are on the alternate list.
