Atlanta Falcons trying out six players

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. –- One of the interesting subplots to the Atlanta Falcons' minicamp is the list of six tryout players.

They’re all long shots to make the regular-season roster, but don’t be surprised if the Falcons sign a couple of these guys after minicamp ends Sunday and give them a shot at training camp.

The tryout guys include former Richmond quarterback Eric Ward, an Atlanta native, Furman receiver R.J. Webb, Richmond receiver Arman Shields, Vanderbilt defensive lineman Steven Stone, punter Robert Maver and defensive back Daylan Walker.

Maver’s got a unique background. He’s from Canada and played at the University of Guelph. Keep in mind, general manager Thomas Dimitroff has strong ties to Canada and used to work in the Canadian Football League.
