Silver linings: 49ers at Seahawks

Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando

The facts: The 49ers fell to 5-7 with a 20-17 road defeat to the Seahawks in Week 13.

The upside: Even the worst defeats tend to feature a bright spot or two.

  • Quarterback Alex Smith produced the first 300-yard passing game of his career. Smith was generally poised. He played well enough for the 49ers to win the game, hitting tight end Vernon Davis in the hands with what could have been the winning touchdown pass.

  • Davis caught six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, setting the franchise single-season record for scoring receptions by a tight end.

  • Inside linebacker Patrick Willis had a game-high 16 tackles, two for losses.

  • The 49ers had five sacks. Manny Lawson had one of them, plus seven tackles, in what seemed like a strong performance.

  • The 49ers held the Seahawks to 292 net yards and a 4.2-yard average per play.

Looking ahead: The 49ers face the Cardinals at home in Week 14.
