Flush the Pocket: Bucs had Palmer interest

SARASOTA, Fla. -- If there’s one thing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t need -- besides another loss -- it’s another quarterback story.

But during Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer’s conference call with Tampa reporters Wednesday, he was asked about the Bucs’ efforts to court him during the offseason. Without trying, the Bucs had another quarterback story on their hands.

Before Tampa Bay drafted quarterback Mike Glennon, who will start Sunday against the Cardinals over Josh Freeman, the Buccaneers had Palmer in their sights, as my colleague in Tampa Bay, Pat Yasinskas wrote about. And Palmer knew it.

“With everything that was going on, I was very interested in a lot of different places and teams, and obviously was flattered,” Palmer said. “My agent had said that Tampa had been contacting him a lot. I would have been very excited to be there. Their organization has a lot of good players across the board, but like I said, I’m excited and happy to be where I am. I’m excited about our future.”
