SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Friday provided closure perhaps for Colin Kaepernick's most forgettable NFL Sunday.
The NFL said it fined the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback $7,875 for grabbing the facemask of his opponent in a 10-9 loss to Carolina on Sunday.
Such a penalty (and a fine) is a rarity for a quarterback. Kaepernick and his coach, Jim Harbaugh, fruitlessly argued for Kaepernick not to be penalized on the play.
It added to a miserable day for Kaepernick. He threw for a career low 91 yards as the 49ers’ managed just three field goals in the loss. It’s been a tough week for Kaepernick as he had to hear critiques of his game and answer tough questions. Now, the most painful part took place -- his wallet took a hit.
