“It’s a significant sprain," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “He probably will be out at least a couple of weeks.”
Jefferson is battling for a roster spot as a backup corner. He had three passes defensed, including an interception, in the 21-16 loss at Denver.
Starting left guard James Carpenter, who didn’t play at Denver because of a calf strain, was back practicing full speed Sunday. Starting offensive tackle Russell Okung, who had surgery in the offseason to repair a torn ligament in his big toe, took part in a few team drills for the first time.
Carroll said outside linebacker Malcolm Smith, who had offseason ankle surgery, is close to getting on the field for the first time. But Carroll said middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, who is out with a hamstring injury, probably won’t return this week.
Carroll said linebacker Korey Toomer, who has missed camp with a hamstring injury, could return later this week or early next week. Carroll also said linebacker/defensive end Bruce Irvin, who had hip surgery in the offseason, is ahead of schedule in his rehab.
