Dolphins' Porter seeks 49ers, Cardinals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter would look good in a 49ers or Cardinals uniform.

PorterThat's how Porter sees things, anyway.

Porter, upset with the Miami Dolphins over a diminished role in 2009, spoke his mind Tuesday during an interview with Miami radio station WQAM.

The Dolphins own Porter's rights through the 2011 season, but they may release him before paying a $1 million roster bonus next month. Porter would then be free to sign with another team. He went to high school in Bakersfield, Calif., and told WQAM he wanted to play on the West Coast for a team with a 3-4 defensive scheme. He specifically named the 49ers, Cardinals and Chargers.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and some assistants worked for the Steelers when Porter played in Pittsburgh. Porter, 32, would not help the Cardinals get younger at a position where advanced age was an issue last season. But if the fit and price were right, Porter could be worth the investment.

Porter had 9.0 sacks for the Dolphins last season and 17.5 for them in 2008.
