Around the NFC West: Injury updates

Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic says the Cardinals aren't optimistic about Clark Haggans' foot injury. Arizona entered Week 14 with a league-low two players on injured reserve.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee says Thomas Clayton could get playing time in Week 15 if Frank Gore's ankle injury remains a problem. DeShaun Foster would start even though coach Mike Singletary says he's concerned about Foster's fumbling.

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times says the Seahawks could be without linebacker Leroy Hill, who is struggling to regain strength in his shoulder. The team won't make a decision on Matt Hasselbeck or Walter Jones in the immediate term.

Steve Korte of the Belleville News-Democrat says Rams kicker Josh Brown is suffering from a groin injury. Cornerback Fakhir Brown twisted an ankle. Linebacker Gary Stills, a key player on special teams, will undergo tests an a knee injury.

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe says Junior Seau and Rosevelt Colvin each played 49 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps against Seattle less than a week after signing with the team. Nose tackle Vince Wilfork played only six snaps. Linebacker Tedy Bruschi played 18 snaps. With Seattle's injury situation, their Week 14 game was a battle of backups. A cameo from Billy McMullen was all the Seahawks were missing. I think they'll settle for Deion Branch's contributions.

Unrelated to injuries:

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat quotes Singletary as calling Vernon Davis the best blocking tight end he's ever seen. Singletary has seen some good ones. Davis' skills as a pass blocker are indeed very good, as noted.

Frank Hughes of the Tacoma News Tribune spoke with Mike Holmgren, Lofa Tatupu, Walter Jones and Matt Hasselbeck. Tatupu expects Holmgren to coach again at some point after this season. Hasselbeck has considered sitting out the remainder of the season, but a decision has not yet been made.

Mike Tulumello of the East Valley Tribune says the Cardinals are 11-3 at home under coach Ken Whisenhunt. That includes 5-1 this season.
