Lessons apply in latest DUI arrest

The ultimately bogus arrest involving Arizona Cardinals outside linebacker Joey Porter earlier this offseason came to mind upon reading news that another NFC West player, Ray McDonald of the San Francisco 49ers, had been arrested for allegedly driving drunk.

While Porter's situation was an exception to the general rule in these cases, a little caution could be in order, particularly when the player takes responsibility for his actions and the alleged behavior isn't part of a pattern.

McDonald has issued a general apology to teammates. The arrest could work against McDonald as he tries to enhance his value heading into a contract season.

Update: McDonald was allegedly traveling 94 miles per hour in a 65 zone, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
