Gridiron Challenge: Striving for mediocrity

Streetballbandit had the foresight to start the Chicago Bears' Matt Forte in Week 1 of the ESPN Blog Network Gridiron Challenge.

Nice call.

I went with Adrian Peterson, but that wasn't my least fortuitous decision. It was going to be a bad week, I just knew, when my kicker of choice, Garrett Hartley, kept missing in the Thursday night game. My starting receivers, Randy Moss and Andre Johnson, combined for eight points. My starting quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Schaub, combined for 23. Oh, and how about that San Francisco 49ers' defense?

It's tough to have so many seemingly defensible decisions prove laughable in one week.

It all added up to 81 points, good for 2,555th place and the 12.7th percentile after the first week. ESPN.com colleagues James Walker and Tim Graham fared better. The last-place teams managed only 40 points, but I will not name names.

There's always next week.
