Before the 2010 season, AccuScore simulations gave the St. Louis Rams a 2 percent chance of winning the NFC West.
Those simulations give the Rams a division-best 40 percent chance based on where teams stand heading into Week 9. That seems optimistic to me based on the Rams' remaining schedule, but the other NFC West teams have their own challenges and issues. The Rams are the only team in the division with an ascending young quarterback (pending more than one game's experience for the San Francisco 49ers' Troy Smith).
The 49ers' chances at claiming the division title have fallen from 66 percent to 21 percent, according to AccuScore. I think the rest of the division will come back to the 49ers over the next week or two, but we've seen little evidence suggesting San Francisco will capitalize over the long haul.
Also from AccuScore: percentage chances for Seattle and Arizona against their Week 9 opponents. The Cardinals won only 18 percent of more than 10,000 play-by-play game simulations, the lowest percentage for any team in the league in Week 9. I'm giving Arizona at least a 19 percent chance.
