49ers vague amid report Gore done for year

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A news conference featuring San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary wouldn't be complete without Singletary saying he would have to look at the film.

Singletary invoked that familiar answer when asked how 49ers running back Frank Gore suffered a potentially significant hip injury.

GoreGoreBut with NFL.com reporting that Gore will miss the remainder of the season, the 49ers might have a harder time enjoying their 27-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Singletary offered no details on the injury. He said Gore wanted to return to the game, to the point that the team hid the Pro Bowl runner's helmet.

Gore was on crutches after the game.

Brian Westbrook carried 23 times for 136 yards and a touchdown as the 49ers amassed 261 yards on the ground. Expect more from Singletary at his news conference Tuesday.

UPDATE: The 49ers confirmed Gore has a broken right hip and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
