Seahawks sign former Texans snapper Pittman

The Seahawks have apparently solved their long-snapping situation for 2009 by signing unrestricted free agent Bryan Pittman. This move makes a lot of sense. I had expected the team to sign a snapper earlier in the offseason.

Pittman, who played at the University of Washington and grew up in the Northwest, joins a long list of Seahawks snappers since J.P. Darche left after the 2006 season. Unlike most of them, Pittman projects as a longer-term replacement. He played in 92 consecutive games for the Texans before serving a four-game suspension to end last season.

Jeff Robinson had come out of retirement to handle snapping duties for Seattle in recent seasons. Robinson is 39. Pittman is 32.
