Two does not quite make a pattern, but the Cardinals would not appear to be the ones blinking during these high-profile contract disputes. The goal should not be to defeat players in negotiations, of course, but if the Cardinals are going to establish how they do business, they need to be firm and consistent.
The decision to revisit Boldin's contract in 2008, with three years remaining, hasn't worked out too well. Three questions to consider:
If you were Boldin's next agent, what would be your strategy for getting a new deal as soon as possible?
What would be your strategy for encouraging a trade?
What would be your strategy, period?
