Jennings' deal means stability for 49ers' specialists

The 49ers' five-year extension with snapper Brian Jennings, announced by the team, is very good news for punter Andy Lee and kicker Joe Nedney. Losing a good snapper -- and Jennings is as good as anyone in the league -- can throw off kickers and punters.

The 49ers have valued Jennings for years. They gave him a $1.1 million signing bonus as part of the deal he signed in 2004. That's very good money for a snapper even by 2009 standards. Jennings' old deal ran through the 2009 season.

The Cardinals [Mike Leach] and Seahawks [Bryan Pittman] have new snappers this season. Chris Massey is back for the Rams and entering the final year of his deal.
