Audio: Burress, 49ers draft options, more

Just wanted to pass along a few audio links touching on items of interest in the NFC West:

  • Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com tells XTRA910 radio in Phoenix that he thinks Cam Newton will wind up going first overall to Carolina. He thinks the Arizona Cardinals couldn't go wrong taking Texas A&M pass-rusher Von Miller fifth overall. He calls Miller "absolutely spectacular" and thinks Miller will be in the Pro Bowl quickly.

  • ESPN's Tim Hasselbeck checks in with 710ESPN Seattle for more thoughts on his brother's situation with the Seattle Seahawks. Winning a Super Bowl stands out as the top priority for players in Matt Hasselbeck's situation, but there are others: offensive system, offensive line, receivers, defense, overall franchise direction and that other thing, known as money.

  • Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren tells Sports Radio 950 KJR he strongly considered becoming the Cleveland Browns' head coach this offseason.

  • Howard Balzer and Tony Softli of 101ESPN St. Louis discuss whether Plaxico Burress would be a smart option for the St. Louis Rams upon getting out of jail.

  • Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com tells KNBR radio in San Francisco he thinks the 49ers will select a quarterback after the first round. He's focusing on Patrick Peterson, Miller and Robert Quinn as the three most likely targets for the 49ers with the seventh overall choice, based on needs and potential availability. Maiocco suspects the 49ers might think quarterbacks Christian Ponder or Andy Dalton could fit the 49ers' new offense well enough for coach Jim Harbaugh to consider.

We've just about made it through a full week without NFL transactions. Let's not make it too many more weeks, NFL and NFL Players Association.
