We covered all four NFC West teams. My thoughts on the St. Louis Rams' first-round selection:
"I liked the fact that Robert Quinn was their choice. We've talked about the past and Billy Devaney has talked about it, too. They have had some pretty good, solid, unflashy building-block picks for a number of years. This is a guy who has some question marks. He had that brain tumor, he was out a whole year, but the talent is supposedly off the charts. I like them stepping up to the plate and saying, 'We can take a cut, take a home run cut at a guy because we already have a couple guys on base and there is only one out. From that standpoint, it was appealing. They did not just take the safe, defensive tackle pick. That might have been a good pick, too. I just like the upside here.
Tyson also passed along links to interviews with Devaney and coach Steve Spagnuolo. Devaney elaborated on what the Rams expect from the receivers they drafted in terms of flexibility. That position has suddenly become a lot more competitive.
Also, Devaney said new coordinator Josh McDaniels was most influential in the selection of second-round tight end Lance Kendricks, a player the Rams expect to help right away. Devaney explained why the Rams did not select a running back Mikel Leshoure in the second round even though they liked him a great deal.
