Chris Long agreed to terms on a rookie contract with the St. Louis Rams before the team reported to training camp in 2008.
Even then, Long faced a difficult transition to the NFL.
The current rookies face a steeper climb as the lockout continues to keep them away from their new teams. Long discussed that subject and others during a conversation with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt Tuesday.
One thing to keep in mind: The Rams will have about $12 million in salary cap space after absorbing charges associated with contracts for Long, Sam Bradford and Jason Smith. That figure is substantially lower than figures discussed previously and during this podcast.
