Cards or Dolphins? Thoughts on rookie QB

Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin was once reportedly in play as an undrafted free agent for the Arizona Cardinals.

Devlin plans to sign with the Miami Dolphins instead, ESPN's John Clayton reports.

Devlin wouldn't have gotten a long look with the Cardinals, in my view. Arizona will likely add a veteran starter -- Kevin Kolb, anyone? -- this week. John Skelton remains in play as a potential future starter for the Cardinals. He looks like a strong candidate for the No. 2 job this season. Richard Bartel and Max Hall are also both on the roster. Skelton, Bartel and Hall are eligible to practice with the team before the league year begins Aug. 4.

I haven't followed the backup quarterback situation with the Dolphins as closely, but Devlin could have had a hard time making an impact in Arizona.

By the way, it's true, Jim Trotter. We are discussing rookie free agents as though they're going to be impact players. Some of these quarterbacks will make an impact early, at least.
