Assessing Sam Bradford's growth potential

Trent Dilfer's latest Insider column projects good things for St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, with a couple of question marks.

One of those questions dovetails with a piece Will Horton wrote for RamsHerd: How well does Bradford play under pressure, in big-game environments?

The Rams have not experienced many of those, but when they needed their best game at Seattle in Week 17 last season, they played arguably their worst game of the season.

Dilfer ranked Bradford third on his list of seven younger quarterbacks with the greatest potential for stardom based on factors that go beyond individual talent levels.

Bradford actually ranked higher on the list than Matt Ryan even though Dilfer sees similarities between Ryan and Tom Brady. That is partly because questions remain as to whether the Atlanta Falcons will ever hand over their offense to Ryan the way the New England Patriots eventually did with Brady.

The Rams are handing over more responsibility to Bradford this season, putting him in charge of the protection calls, for example.

At this point, Bradford and the Rams could use a signature victory, something I hope to expand upon before St. Louis' game Monday night.
