First-half shutout admirable, but ...

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers have become the third team over the past three-plus seasons to shut out the Pittsburgh Steelers in a first half.

That speaks well of the 49ers' defense, but continuing offensive troubles in the red zone have left San Francisco with only a 6-0 halftime lead. The Steelers have moved the ball well enough at times and have come close enough to connecting on big plays to suggest a six-point lead will be tenuous, at best.

Still, the 49ers' defense has come up big, picking off Ben Roethlisberger twice. The 49ers joined Houston (2011) and Baltimore (2010) as the only teams since Miami in 2007 to shut out Pittsburgh in the first half.
