"I had a coach, Gregg Williams as a defensive coordinator, that everyone would die to play for," Rogers said during an October interview in the San Francisco 49ers' locker room.
Rogers was reflecting on his time with Washington. Most of the reflections were negative ones, save for the time spent playing under Williams.
NFC West fans can connect the dots from there. Rogers is about to become a free agent after a Pro Bowl season with the 49ers. Williams is the St. Louis Rams' new defensive coordinator.
"Hearing one of Rams targets in free agency is 49ers CB Carlos Rogers," Howard Balzer of 101ESPN St. Louis tweeted.
Rogers said in the same interview that he enjoyed playing for 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, as well. But if the Rams are willing to outbid the 49ers, that could directly influence where Rogers plays in 2012.
The Rams are awaiting word from the NFL on bounty-related punishment for Williams stemming from the coordinator's time with the Saints. In the meantime, Williams could make St. Louis an appealing destination for Rogers.
