League fines Seahawks' Peterson, not Russell

Niners coach Mike Nolan campaigned for a fine against Seahawks safety Brian Russell for a hit on quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan in Week 2.

Instead, Nolan will have to settle for a $7,500 fine against Seahawks linebacker Julian Peterson for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from a post-sack celebration.

Peterson drew a 15-yard penalty for his actions. The 49ers thought Russell had hit O'Sullivan illegally when the quarterback was sliding. The league apparently disagreed. An NFL spokesman said Russell had not been fined for his actions during the game.
