Kerney, Tuck also fined in NFC West games

Two more notes on the punishment front. The NFL has fined the Seahawks' Patrick Kerney and the Giants' Justin Tuck for grabbing an opponent's facemask. Each fine was $5,000.

Tuck grabbed Rams quarterback Marc Bulger by the facemask in a manner that appeared obvious but accidental. The play appeared painful for Bulger. Tuck grabbed the facemask with enough force to twist Bulger's neck awkwardly. Bulger fell to the ground for a sack. Officials assessed a 15-yard penalty against Tuck on the play.

Kerney's infraction escapes my memory. I bet someone can recall the play. He wasn't penalized. We noted earlier that the league fined Seattle linebacker Julian Peterson $7,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The NFL did not like how Peterson celebrated a sack.

Two safeties -- Seattle's Brian Russell and San Francisco's Dashon Goldson -- escaped fines. Russell made contact with 49ers quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan when the quarterback slid. Goldson hit Seattle receiver Logan Payne in the legs, causing a season-ending knee injury. The hit on Payne appeared unfortunate but not against the rules. The 49ers expected a fine for Russell. I wondered if the timing of O'Sullivan's slide played into the ruling.
