Bickley touches on whether the Cardinals might have been going for a touchdown late in the game -- thereby exposing receiver Anquan Boldin to a potentially serious injury -- to answer the Jets' try for a two-point conversion while leading by 19 points with two minutes remaining.
Bickley raises the possibility based on what he overheard walking toward the locker room after the game: a Cardinals offensive lineman yelling about "damn statistics".
My impression watching the game was that Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt was going to be aggressive to the end, no matter what. He went for two-point conversions when trailing 34-14 and 34-21. He went for an onside kick in the third quarter. He is an aggressive coach anyway.
I stayed in the pressbox until the game was finished, so I didn't hear what the lineman said. Bickley correctly noted that a serious injury can occur on any play, at any time. The Cardinals attempted two more passes even after Boldin was injured. Your thoughts?
