Around the NFC West: 2013 draft capital

Around the NFC West: Dec. 7, 2012

The St. Louis Rams should root for Baltimore in Week 14, Cleveland in Week 15, Philadelphia in Week 16 and Dallas in Week 17.

Victories for those teams in those weeks would come at the Washington Redskins' expense. And every time the Redskins lose, the 2013 draft pick Washington traded to St. Louis rises in value.

Right now, the Rams would pick 15th overall with their own choice and 18th with the one acquired from the Redskins, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes.

The last seven players drafted 15th overall: Bruce Irvin, Mike Pouncey, Jason Pierre-Paul, Brian Cushing, Branden Albert, Lawrence Timmons and, yes, Tye Hill. The last seven drafted 18th: Melvin Ingram, Corey Liuget, Maurkice Pouncey, Robert Ayers, Joe Flacco, Leon Hall and Bobby Carpenter.

Why list seven? Just for a shot at making a gratuitous Hill reference. Hill started 21 of the 28 games he played for the Rams over three seasons. He played 16 more games with Atlanta and Detroit, but has not played since 2010.

The Rams have fared much better in the draft recently. Michael Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Chris Givens, Greg Zuerlein and Daryl Richardson have all made significant contributions as rookie draft choices this season. Brian Quick has a touchdown. Trumaine Johnson has gotten playing time at corner.
