Around the NFC West: Jan. 30, 2013
NEW ORLEANS -- The clock on my laptop does not update automatically when changing time zones. It's on Pacific time, in other words, and that means it reads 3:38 a.m. as I'm punching its keys on this Wednesday morning.
The San Francisco 49ers will begin assembling for their next Super Bowl media availability in about two hours. Every member of the roster and coaching staff will sit behind a table fielding questions from reporters who have gathered in New Orleans from all around the world.
It's at this point in the week when a team such as the 49ers can no longer pretend as though Super Bowl week is just another business trip. The demands placed upon them are wholly inconsistent with the typical preparation week.
The 49ers have another similar media session scheduled for Thursday, also at their team hotel. The itinerary lightens Friday, when only the head coaches are available.
The teams finally get a break as the week winds down, but that is when they could use some activities to pass the time more comfortably. The final day or so before kickoff will drag.
