Cardinals' run defense braces for onslaught

The Cardinals had a hard time stopping Seahawks running back Justin Forsett.

Their next three games pit Arizona's run defense against Pro Bowl-caliber runners Steven Jackson, Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson.

The Cardinals have fared well against strong running teams in the past, but their run defense is sagging. Gerald Hayes, their best linebacker against the run, missed the last two games. He could return against Jackson and the Rams in Week 11.

Jackson is proving he can run against anyone. He has to like his chances against Arizona.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt identified a couple of factors for his team's recent struggles against the run. Injuries were one of them. But he pointed to two areas of emphasis on defense this season -- red zone and points per game -- as evidence the Cardinals were doing OK on that side of the ball.
