Thoughts as Rams re-sign Chris Williams

The St. Louis Rams have 10 offensive linemen under contract after re-signing 2008 Chicago Bears first-round draft choice Chris Williams.

Williams, who played 59 snaps at guard over the Rams' final two games last season, adds depth after Robert Turner departed in free agency. Another Rams interior lineman, right guard Harvey Dahl, is returning from biceps surgery. Williams shared time with Shelley Smith at right guard after Dahl's injury. He projects as a fallback starting candidate at left guard, in my view.

The Rams could continue to remake their line in the 2013 draft. Projected starting right tackle Rodger Saffold is entering the final year of his contract. Starting center Scott Wells and starting left tackle Jake Long have had injury problems recently, as has potential starting guard Rokevious Watkins. Adding young depth would make sense as the Rams ultimately transition away from short-term veteran solutions such as 2012 starter Barry Richardson and Williams.
