Cardinals let Chargers have Manti Te'o

The Arizona Cardinals were on the clock with the 38th overall choice when they bailed from the pick, allowing the San Diego Chargers to use it for Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o.

Arizona sent the 38th pick to San Diego for the 40th and 216th choices.

The Te'o story is well known, of course. He said he was duped into a fake online relationship, creating headlines that threatened to overshadow his playing career.

The Cardinals could use help at inside linebacker, but they also need draft choices as first-year coach Bruce Arians and first-year general manager Steve Keim reshape the roster. Arizona now holds the 45th, 69th, 103rd, 110th, 140th, 174th and 219th choices. The team drafted guard Jonathan Cooper at No. 7.
