Seattle has released veteran safety Mike Green, a once-promising figure in the Seahawks' secondary whose career unraveled following a serious foot injury. Green's injury was one factor in the team's decision to sign Deon Grant and Brian Russell in free agency. Grant has started 112 consecutive regular-season games, the longest streak for an active NFL safety.
In other Seahawks news, the team placed receiver Deion Branch, defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs and punter Ryan Plackemeier on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. None is eligible to begin practicing before passing a physical examination.
Update: The Seahawks also placed linebacker Will Herring on the "declared non-football illness" list. The team will presumably provide more details at practice today.
