A weekly examination of the Packers' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 5 | Last Week: 19 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
Sunday’s 22-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons did not help the Packers much in the ESPN Power Rankings, moving them up only one spot, but it made a world of difference for their playoff chances. Combined with the Detroit Lions’ loss at the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers (6-6-1) moved to within one-half game of the division co-leading Lions and Chicago Bears, both 7-6. Although they still will need some help along the way, the Packers saved their season, at least for another week.
One of the six on the panel of voters actually placed the Packers ahead of the Bears this week despite the Bears’ impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys on "Monday Night Football." That voter put the Packers at 15th on his ballot and the Bears at 16th. Those two teams meet at Soldier Field in the regular-season finale, but for that game to be relevant, the Packers likely need to take care of the Cowboys, who stand at 15th, and the No. 19 Pittsburgh Steelers the next two weeks.
Whether they can do that might depend on if quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns this week from his collarbone injury.
As always, you can rank all 32 teams yourself.
