McShay Mock 3.0 reax: Cardinals

At first glance, I didn't think the Cardinals would spend its first-round pick on Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard, but after reading ESPN NFL draft insider Todd McShay's explanation in his Mock 3.0, it makes sense -- as long as there's not an offensive tackle on the board.

It all depends on what happens in free agency. If Arizona locks up a good left tackle, Dennard makes sense, especially if the Cards part ways with Jerraud Powers -- which is a distinct possibility for cap reasons. Dennard could be a good transition corner, as well, meaning he could be the perfect fit for the Cardinals to train for a year as a backup and possibly nickelback while Tyrann Mathieu recovers from his ACL and LCL injuries. Learning under Patrick Peterson could be the best career move for Dennard. He'll learn how to be a professional, as well as learn a skill set that's made Peterson a three-time Pro Bowler. If there's any question about Peterson's influence, just look at Mathieu, who was in the discussion for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after being out of football for a year.
