While not making any big splashes in free agency like other teams, the San Diego Chargers continue to fortify the depth on the team’s roster. Pending the player passing a physical, the Chargers have agreed in principle to a three-year deal with Indianapolis Colts free agent middle linebacker Kavell Conner.
Conner, 27, totaled a career-high 104 tackles in 15 starts with Indianapolis in 2011. Conner started 36 games in four seasons for the Colts, collecting 236 tackles, seven pass breakups and a sack.
GM Tom Telesco worked in the Colts' personnel department when the team drafted Conner out of Clemson in the seventh round in 2010.
Along with Conner, the Chargers have signed running back Donald Brown and tight end David Johnson so far in free agenc. They also retained Butler, safety Darrell Stuckey and offensive lineman Chad Rinehart.
