Jets' second quarter one for the books

The New York Jets enjoyed their most prolific quarter in franchise history this afternoon.

After a scoreless first quarter, they amassed 34 points before halftime against the Arizona Cardinals at the Meadowlands.

The Jets scored more than 34 points in a game only once last year, beating the then-winless Miami Dolphins, 40-13, on Dec. 2.

ESPN Research dug up the best quarters in Jets history. Their previous record was 30 points in the fourth quarter against the Miami Dolphins in 2000. The Jets scored 28 points in the second quarter against the Dolphins in 1986 and in the fourth quarter versus the Boston Patriots in 1968.

A slew of Cardinals mistakes in the first half sent the Jets on their way.

  • Brett Favre zipped a 12-yard pass to Laveranues Coles for the opening score with 14:44 remaining in the second quarter.

  • Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis returned a Kurt Warner interception 32 yards for a touchdown with 13:25 left.

  • Coles broke open down the left sideline for a 34-yard touchdown 7:17 before intermission.

  • Jay Feely kicked a 20-yard field goal with 3:32 to go.

  • Coles caught a 2-yard pass from Favre 1:50 before the half.

  • Feely kicked a 30-yard field goal as the quarter ended.
