The Baltimore Ravens are the only 0-3 team in the AFC because they can't finish games and the Ravens have been unable to finish games because of a lack of confidence.
That's the opinion of quarterback Joe Flacco, who has seen the Ravens lose all three games by a total of 14 points.
"Right now, it probably comes down to the fact that we’re not believing in ourselves enough and we’re envisioning winning those football games," Flacco said. "We’ve got to turn that around and make sure we can do that."
It's surprising that the Ravens don't have that confidence late in games. There are 36 players remaining (68 percent of the 53-man roster) from the Baltimore team that started out 3-1 only a year ago.
But the Ravens have flinched in the fourth quarter every week in 2015. In the final minute of the season opener, the Ravens couldn't convert on their last two passes in the end zone. In Week 2, Baltimore allowed Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to throw the winning touchdown with 26 seconds left. On Sunday, the Ravens took the lead twice in the fourth quarter and gave it back to the Bengals on the next drive.
Baltimore doesn't have much time to regroup. The Ravens play Thursday in Pittsburgh, which is where the Ravens last won a game -- 268 days ago.
"It’s a quick week getting your bodies ready, and they have to deal with that, too," Flacco said. "We also have to get our minds in check and make sure that we want to go out there and win a football game."
The last time a Baltimore NFL team began the season 0-4 was the Colts in 1982, the franchise's second-to-last season in the city. With Mike Pagel at quarterback, the Colts finished 0-8-1 in a strike-shortened season.
