There has been some speculation that Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is in line for increased playing time in 2011, considering the multiple pending free agents the Vikings have at that position. I wonder where that idea stands after what has been a troubling week.
GriffenGriffen was arrested last Saturday in Los Angeles on suspicion of public intoxication and again on Monday for allegedly assaulting a police officer following a traffic stop. Friday, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com, USC administrators banned its football players from attending a party Griffen is organizing this week in Las Vegas.
An e-mail sent to student-athletes read in part: "[W]e believe that there is a significant chance that the eligibility of any student-athlete who participates in such a trip would be jeopardized." Pedro Moura of ESPNLosAngeles.com explains the situation.
Griffen played for the Trojans from 2007-09 before the Vikings made him a fourth-round draft pick last year. He played in 11 games as a rookie, but two players ahead of him on the depth chart -- Ray Edwards and Brian Robison -- are pending free agents.
