Falcons get Jason Snelling back

The Atlanta Falcons just agreed to terms on a one-year contract with running back Jason Snelling.

He had been testing the market as an unrestricted free agent and the Falcons, who wanted him back all along, weren’t happy that he missed so much of training camp. Snelling has been the top backup to Michael Turner.

He likely will remain in that role. But his absence from camp gave fifth-round draft pick Jacquizz Rodgers some extra practice time, and the rookie has been impressive. Like Turner, Snelling is a power runner. But, unlike Turner, he’s pretty good at catching passes out of the backfield.

Rodgers also is strong in that area and has more explosiveness and can make things happen after the catch. Rodgers could take away some of Snelling’s role as a receiver out of the backfield.
